My 8yo son - using a hardball for the first season - had been using my 40-year-old glove and was complaining about the lack of padding. This Mizuno Franchise glove was the best glove I found which was light and soft enough for a kid, but solidly built and padded for real baseballs. So many gloves are simply too big for kids (over 12") or cheap/wimpy t-ball toy gloves. The Mizuno Franchise broke in quickly, will fit for several years, and has snug enough fingers and palm to work for 8-12yo (though its sold as an 'adult glove'.) I literally looked at every baseball fielder glove in Sports Authority and this was head and shoulders the right choice. After two days of break-in and now several weeks of play, no question about it. My kid is now catching reliably and with confidence.
