I have purchased 3 of these pants (two from Amazon and one directly from Craghoppers) and thus I am assured they were not merely "lemons."

I am not sure whether Bear Grylls either replaces these pants each episode or they were simply made better during his stint on Man vs. Wild but these pants are a COMPLETE DISASTER.

On my first weekend outing (two simple overnights backpacking on designated trails only) the first pair began to fall apart. The stitching along the crotch came undone and traveled the entire gusset of the pant. The interior button (the second-securing-one) came right off (it's not a reinforced button like the main outer one). Upon further inspection (on day ONE) I noticed that literally EVERYWHERE the stitching was coming undone. I was forced to make multiple repairs with textile glue and sewing. I then switched to my backup pair for the next day. And guess what. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AFTER MERE HOURS OF EASY, TRAIL-ONLY WEAR. No scrambling, no climbing, nothing. Mere walking. That's all.

I have also used the 4-way stretch version of these pants. SAME RESULT. So either they are currently made to fail immediately or Bear Grylls doesn't wear anything made after 2011 for these WILL NOT protect you at all in any setting, let alone a SURVIVAL setting.

Thankfully I ordered the first two pair from Amazon and was able to return them within the 30 day window. Amazon was utterly amazing at assisting me, refunding my ENTIRE purchase including shipping. So in essence, DO NOT BUY THESE PANTS. Many Craghopper products are top-notch (such as the Bear Trek Long-sleeved Shirt--literally the best outdoor shirt on the market)

I have many products from Bear Grylls and normally would trust his choices for outerwear but I cannot condone that any individual buys these. They will fail you. And sadly, that might happen when you need them most.

ASICS Men's Extreme33 Running Shoe,Black/Onyx/White,13 M US Review

I just got a pair of these shoes in the mail today and was eager to take them out for a test run. My immediate thoughts are that they are are a fine, lighter-weight daily trainer with an average (maybe even above average) volume when it comes to fit. Folks comfortable with a neutral shoe with more responsive cushioning (not plush or pillowy) should feel right at home with these.

Fitwise, the platform is fine for me. But the upper is a little roomier than I'd prefer in both the heel and the toebox. I should say though that I am 150 lbs, prefer to wear socks which are as thin and light as possible, don't have high-volume feet, and have a normal arch. Most problematic for me was the extra room in the heel which required me to really tighten up the top laces in order to prevent significant heel slippage. That said, I do agree with others here who mentioned the shorter laces. But since my feet aren't extraordinarily large and I prefer really cinching down the upper for a tighter fit, I am still able to double-knot them.

Other than that, the only other notable thing worth mentioning is that these shoes, being a lighter-weight model, have about a few millimeters less midsole material than your average daily trainer. In other words, less midsole material means less material to absorb impact. The upside of this is that,in combination with the Speva midsole material, the ride of these shoes accommodates faster turnover and pace. The downside is that this is true only if your body can handle the greater amount of stress. Oh, and if you're also somebody who is trying to transition from heel-striking, then these shoes also have about an 8mm heel-toe drop according to a competitor's website. That's kind of in the middle of what you'll find with most running shoes nowadays. Not zero drop. But not your typical 12mm differential that's traditional.

In closing, I'll just say a few more words about the midsole material Asics has used. The Solyte midsole material introduced by them a few years back has clearly supplanted Speva as the go to midsole foam used in their running shoes. Lately, there have been fewer and fewer options for you to chose from in the Asics line if you prefer Speva; this Gel-Extreme33 model happens to be one of them.

As a runner who prefers to pick up the pace and not have to fight as much against a more heavily cushioned shoe, I can appreciate the qualities Speva brings to the table which include--but are not limited to--better responsiveness and "bounce-back". However this model appears to have been discontinued as it no longer shows up on the Asics website; nor are there any press releases stating an updated version coming down the pike. So with the departure of the Extreme33, Speva enthusiasts are left with just one option at the moment and are--to my knowledge--limited to the upcoming Lyte33 version 2. Note, the Excel33 version 2 may use it. But it's a hybrid Speva/Solyte model.

If you're reading this, Asics, then hopefully you're taking notice that there are still people--folks who run a lot of miles and buy a LOT of shoes--out there who still want models with Speva included. It may be a little heavier than Solyte is. But some of us out here are fine with that given the benefits that it brings to the table.

As there are only 8 miles on these shoes at the moment, I can't speak to their longevity. But I'll try to remember to update this after--hopefully--another few hundred miles.

Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry Knife with 4.8-Inch Blade Review

For those not interested in details: "It's a great knife."

For those interested in details: The blade steel Gerber uses has changed. My original review was based on the original design that used 12C27; the current design uses 420HC. 12C27 was comparable in toughness (durability in rough use) and hardness (edge retention) to 440A and was a very good steel choice by Gerber. 420HC, when treated right, can be a very good steel too (e.g. "Buck knives"); however, it generally will be not be as good at keeping an edge as 12C27 or other, harder stainless steels, as well as most any carbon steel. It will be a very tough blade (less-likely/very uniikely to chip or crack in half), meaning it should handle hard-use and abuse quite well. All in all, it's still a good choice in steel - might have to sharpen a little more often, but it's got an integrated sharpener after all.

The construction is not full tang but push tang; however, this does not appear to affect its structural integrity. The LMF II is constructed in this manner in order to give this particular knife an insulated handle. This means that you can cut an electrically "live" wire without fear of injury. The story you might have heard already about this knife is a true one - this is the knife that allowed an advanced marksman team to cut a live electrical line in Afghanistan powering insurgent search lights that would have given their position away.

Since 420HC is a stainless steel, maintenance is minimal as is the probability of corrosion. The older 12C27 blade took a good edge and showed good edge retention. As a matter of fact, I was quite surprised at the edge retention of the older model. I would expect noticeably less edge-retention from the current 420HC model but not enough to negate the value of this design. Just expect to sharpen the blade a bit more often. The blade coating of the model I used also held up very well and showed no flaking, chipping, scratching, or dusting. I do not believe the coating has changed at all.

As to sharpening, Gerber's 420HC is very easy to sharpen, and it takes a good edge too. Actually, you can expect it to take a better, sharper edge than the original 12C27 design would. The sharpener built into the sheath works very well on the blade. NOTE: Since part of the blade is serrated, this sharpener is limited in its ability - it can only sharpen the non-serrated part of the blade. Sharpening the serrations should be done using a diamond rod or a similar sharpening tool.

The handle design looked funny to me a first - didn't seem like a good design, but, thankfully, it's only looks. For starters, the grip is made of Kraton (rubber-like) and offers a very secure and solid grip. As to comfort, my hand only started hurting after the first two hours of cutting, and that was minimal pain... but I'll admit after three, it was plum tuckered out. :) In other words, it was a very comfortable handle.

The "skull-crusher" butt (steel projection below the handle) is also insulated, so don't worry about getting shocked through there either. It is also designed to function as a make-shift hammer by using the top side of the butt as a hammer head (Hint: You probably want to use it this way while the blade is sheathed).

The three holes in the knife (two in the guard, one in the butt) are intended for lashing the knife to a rod for use as a spear. The hollows or concave indents/depressions in the handle are also designed for this purpose and allow a lashed pole to fit snugly against the knife handle.

The blade performs well at light chopping (provided you make contact with the non-serrated part of the blade). Light chopping accounts for a large portion of outdoor/survival work with a knife. Heavy wood cutting should be done with a saw of some kind (wire saw, folding saw) or an axe. The serrations also function very well and are useful in many ways - cutting rope being a big one. The serrations do seem a bit more "aggressive" than some other knives and seemed to make the work go faster.

As was already mentioned, the sheath has a built-in sharpener that works well and is easy to use. All you have to do is stick the blade in and pull it back out a couple times - you don't have to worry about the blade angle, because it's all taken care of for you. Overall, the sheath is very well made. The different carrying options are very nice and allow you to carry the knife on your thigh (using the leg straps - "drop-leg" style), on your belt (disconnect the leg straps), or on a MOLLE vest or pack.

This is a great knife for utility/survival purposes at an affordable price. Though I would love to buy a Fallkniven A1 or Odin or a Busse or a Randall, etc., the Gerber LMF II is a much more budget friendly knife, and it still exudes quality, while serving its purpose very well. You really can't go wrong with this knife. EDIT: I now own a couple Fallknivens (S1 & NL2 - Odin), and this is still a great knife. I still keep it on my pack at all times.

Another note of import, Gerber's customer service has a good reputation overall. I have heard numerous accounts of professionalism in regards to their customer service - paying for shipping, replacing an item, etc. EDIT: I have since had some contact with Gerber regarding a Mark II purchase I made, and their customer service is very good.

All in all, it's still a sound purchase.

I have become a size 10 and am wishing to get back to an 8 (read: still wearing many of my size 8 pants, etc). However, when I got my size 10 of this suit, the leg holes were so small they really squeezed my legs (and my legs aren't abnormally large), and the whole suit was just TOO small. I went to a sporting goods store after to try sizes and the 12 was correct, with no extra room to spare. Also, for those unfamiliar with the Speedo leg cuts, this 'conservative' cut is REALLY low. I mean, when you put it on it really appears almost perfectly straight across - even with your crotch - not scooped up a bit as it appears in the photos. Again, at the actual store trying Speedos on, I discovered that their highest 'contemporary' cut is actually still pretty moderate, i.e., my bikini underwear were completely covered up and then some when I was trying on these suits over them. In the end, the suit quality feels great so I still plan to buy Speedo but sizing and cut is not as one might expect.

Pearl Izumi Women's Attack Short, Black, Small Review

I have 2 pairs of "attack" shorts and they are my favorite cycling shorts for the price point. The "racing" padding gives great, comfortable padding without chafing. This "racing" padding is different than Pearl Izumi's other styles of shorts with the same category of padding and it is much better in my opinion. I would have given this item 5 stars except that when I reordered this item the second pair was a different style (same "racing" padding!) with longer length, different waistband, different fabric. I really like both pairs, but I do think if you order the same item, you should get the same product.

I found out about these because a groomer in my salon had some. Got some from Dick's and they are awesome for keeping dry when bathing dogs and the cut hair slides off them as well, so no annoying hair splinters on your legs! I need more of these. Everlast 4008 80-Pound Traditional Heavy Bag Review

I too recieved this bag in a box semi-beaten up, but then again an 80 pound item in a lightweight cardboard box is bound to cause a little box damage. And no there was no interior protective bag, and my chain pack was tied with pink ribbon.

Now to the bag itself... The toughest, most well filled, and economical bags I have ever seen. I use light bag gloves and with the amount of filling and it's density I can punch for hours (If I had the stamina :) ), without getting the sore knuckles or the wrist pain that I used to get from denser packed bags. Plus it's an Everlast!!! This is a must buy for anyone who is looking for a heavy bag. Good luck and TRAIN HARD!!!
