I have been wearing the LifeTrak Move C300 as my primary watch for most of a month now. Due to the rubber watchband and highly adjustable closure, it is pretty comfortable, despite the fact that the "head" of the watch is very large/long for my small wrist.I just returned from a 10-day vacation spent mostly outdoors in Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park and other outdoors areas in California and Nevada. The C300 allowed me to monitor my activity from day to day. I also wear the watch at home, to walk the dog and at the gym to not only monitor my activity but my heart rate and % of target heart rate.
The thing I like most about the LifeTrak over my older heart monitor (Polar S120 Heart Rate Monitor Watch) is that I no longer have to wear a strap with a transmitter on it around my chest. I always hated that part of the Polar, so I love not having to wear it with the LifeTrak.
The C300 has a number of screens:
Using the top button on the side of the watch:
1) Watch mode shows the current time (to the second), day, date and the current day's activity (steps, distance or calories, whichever you've chosen).
2) Hourly mode shows activity of the current day by hour and the current day's activity (whatever way you've chosen).
3) Daily mode shows activity of the current day and past 7 days in bar chart format and the current day's activity (whatever way you've chosen).
4) Workout mode includes a stopwatch to time your workout and the workout activity (whatever way you've chosen).
Using the bottom button on the side of the watch:
1) Synch your watch to LifeTrak's app.
2) Start and stop timing your workout.
Using the top and bottom buttons on the side of the watch simultaneously:
1) Lights up the watch face so you can see it in the dark.
Using the large gray button on the face of the watch:
1) Your current heart rate.
2) What percent of your target heart rate you are currently working at.
I found it disturbing to note a few major discrepancies between the Amazon product page for the C300 and the pamphlets that come with the product (or between what the pamphlet says it will do and what it actually does).
1) Is the product waterproof?
a) Amazon product page calls the C300 waterproof.
b) Page 9 of the Information Guide and page 1 of the Quick Start Guide say "Buttons are not intended for use in or under water as this may cause water leakage." So, TECHNICALLY, if you are careful not to touch a button while in the pool or shower, it MIGHT be waterproof? I do NOT call that a waterproof product.
2) Does the product work with fitness apps?
a) Amazon product page states TWICE that you can "Sync data to some of your favorite health and fitness apps"
b) This is an outright lie. Page 5 of the Quick Start Guide indicates that you MUST install a particular (Argus) app and provides a website. When I went to the website, it indicates that the product can ONLY be used on Apple products, not Android. As a result, I was not able to download or test the app as I have Android devices (I do have an iPod but not the right model for this app).
3) Is the product's band reversible?
a) Page 13 of the Quick Start Guide says "The bands of your C300 are reversible and replaceable. They easily slide off and can be reinserted."
b) In my experience, yes the bands DO easily slide off and can be reinserted; however, actually WEARING the watch once the bands are reversed was not pleasant. The bands are used to going the other way, so getting it on and closed is more difficult this way. Additionally, if you have a smaller wrist, there will be a lot of wristband hanging out to catch on things. I found it so annoying wearing it reversed that I immediately changed it back.
Some notes:
1. The watch tracks your calories whether you are wearing the watch or not (assuming activity based on recent experience) so if you are a calorie counter, your counts and the watch's counts may not match.
2. The watch is supposed to be worn snugly so that the watchface's metal back can make good contact with your skin. I found the watch very uncomfortable when worn snugly, but I am very short and have less forearm length than most people.
3. The watch "sleeps" when you're not wearing it to conserve battery life. You need to shake it to "wake it up" when you put it on in the morning.
4. According to the Quick Start Guide, the C300 auto-calibrates distance based on how fast you are walking or running, so setting stride length is unnecessary. I have not yet tested this against a regular pedometer as I forgot to take one on vacation, but plan to do so. Will report back after that test.
In summary, I am enjoying using the LifeTrak C300 to monitor my heart rate and activity (especially at the gym), and find wearing it reasonably comfortable, but had concerns about discrepancies between what the Amazon product page promises and what the watch delivers (or what the watch's guides say is true). As a result, I have taken one full star off the rating.
