I have a partially torn medial meniscus which happened during a basketball game. I waited 3 weeks got an MRI and then decided what would get me back to ball the fastest. The answer was obvious-- I needed a knee brace that was hinged and that would keep by patella in line , off load some impact ,as well and make sure I would not further injure the knee. This was the best support brace that fit my needs without breaking the bank. I ordered an XL size and returned to the court. My debut week we had 3 league games. The first game I did so so. Mostly just getting used to the brace and seeing what my knee would take. Game 2 as I learned to tweak this brace I did better. And by game 3 I was close to my old self but still being cautious. Without the brace there would be no playing. This did an adequate job of off loading some of the impact and stabilizing both sides of my knee. It is light and easy to adjust. What I did find was the neoprene losing some of its shape and I went and got a size X to account for the stretch. I now use the smaller size to play ball and the larger size to wear for longer periods for everyday activities and walking. Eventually I'll get a Don Joy, Bledsoe or Breg high end brace. Have a bledsoe 20.50 coming in the mail. This is a very good brace and a good value. If you need both lateral and medial stability with patella support this will do fine. I can go to work and wear this for hours comfortably. This should allow my knee to heal faster as long as I don't do anything stupid on the court. If you want to play sports go down a size as this will loosen up in a week or two. If you plan to use it for long term wear get the recommended size. Overall I'm happy with the brace. If you need a knee brace this had a little bit of everything get it. This should be used for mild to moderate knee problems. I would not recommend if you have a torn ACL or significant osteoarthritis and you plan or playing sports. You will definitely need a higher end brace. The crossing straps really make this a functional brace.
