I ordered the 6mm thick blue speckled version. This is a very durable mat, and it does help considerably with noise and vibration. My treadmill is on the second floor and on carpet and the mat has done wonders to keep the carpet from being damaged. The selling point for me on this mat is that is made in America.

The mat is made of rubber so it does put off an odor, especially when I leave the door closed to the room it is in. Once I air out the room, the smell is not noticeable, and I don't smell it at all while I'm working out. I think the odor is a small trade off considering a foam type mat, which might not be as odorous, would not last nearly as long as this one will. Also you would need a much thicker foam mat to get the same floor protection and impact absorption as you do with a rubber one. Selling point number two for me is that this mat is made from recycled material, which few if any foam mats can claim.

If you're looking for a serious treadmill mat that will last you, this is the one. If you're sensitive to odors you might be better off with a foam mat.

*Update Aug 2012, I have had this mat for about a year, the odor did eventually go away after a month or so, it wasn't a big issue in the first place. The mat has held up very well and I am glad I got it. I recently took off the motor cover of my tread mill to clean out the dust (my owners manual suggested this) but because of the mat there was very little dust to clean out. I would highly recommend this to any treadmill owner.
