I generally wear an XL in most clothing, but found this was skin tight. i couldn't even zipper it up. I liked the style because of the longer length, I found that it came in a 1X, which is the next size up, and I was able to try it on and purchase it at an outlet store. It seems like they overcompensated and made it a lot larger. i bought it anyway because I really am not the greatest fashionista in the world, and will have room to wear something under it should that become necessary (I live in FL). They really need a size in between, like an XXL . I bought a Columbia rain jacket for my son, also, and had to exchange it because it didn't fit. I read zillions of reviews and found that people were reluctant to put their actual measurements/weight down....they would say things like "I bought a Medium and it was perfect!", (Which upset me on different levels....not enough information as to whom a medium would fit and the fact that she/he would fit perfectly into a medium.) So...since I am fairly anonymous here and it is unlikely that my husband will see it, I will confess to being 185 lbs. and 5'4". I do have fairly long arms, and always had to buy a large sized top to fit, even when i was 125 lbs. This is not a problem with the XL ....plenty of sleeve length. Oh, and although i probably would have preferred black (or grill which is charcoal), neither was available at the outlet store, so i ended up with the red lattice which is sort of tomato soup/darker red. The other option was a white/khaki lattice which was really very attractive, but with my weight, I hate to wear light colors. The red is nice...but not my first choice. At least I'll be less likely to be run over. And, yes, it does keep the rain out and is nice and long.
